Warming Centre open, buses conveying message

For the second night in a row, Belleville's warming centre at Victoria Avenue Baptist Church will be open Wednesday night for those who need to escape the cold.

The warming centre is for individuals to come in from the cold and high winds, and does not provide beds and meals are not provided. 

Located at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Pinnacle Street, with entry at the Pinnacle Street door, the centre will open at 8 p.m. Wednesday and be open until 8 a.m. Thursday.

As well as putting out notifications through local media and contacting local agencies, the city announced Wednesday that on days the centre is open the message ‘Warming Centre Open Tonight’ will rotate on the message bar across the front of city buses. 

Support groups within the community notifiend include Hastings County Social Services, Belleville Police, Grace Inn, and CMHA Hastings & Prince Edward Branch.

The city also urges anyone aware of people living alone to check on their safety.
