Two arrested in drug busts in Quinte West

Two men face a string of charges following a series of drug busts this week in Quinte West.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, officers from Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Central Hastings, Bancroft and Napanee detachments of The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit as well as the Tyendinaga Police Service and the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed search warrants at several addresses in Quinte West.

As a result of the warrants, two males were arrested and a quantity of cocaine with a street value of over $25,000 was seized.

Officers also confiscated over $16,000 in cash, as well as other drug-related items.

Jamie John Cannons, 42, of Quinte West has been charged with:

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 - in Canada 354(1)(a) Criminal Code

Traffick in Schedule I substance- Cocaine Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) 5(1)

Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine -- CDSA 5(2)

Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana - under 30grams -- CDSA 4(1)

Possession of a Schedule I Substance CDSA 4(1)

Adam Dempsey-Elhouni, 29, of Quinte West has been charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine CDSA 5(2)

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada Criminal Code 354(1)(a)  

Possessi on of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana - under 30grams CDSA 4(1)

Traffick in Schedule I substance- Cocaine CDSA 5(1)

Cannons has a bail hearing in Belleville Provincial Court on Friday, and Dempsey-Elhouni was released at a bail hearing on Wednesday, and will be back in court on Nov. 2.
