Stanley Park playground construction set to begin Jun. 22

Construction on the Stanley Park playground project on Forest Hill Crescent and Edge Hill Road is scheduled to begin on June 22.

In a press release from the City of Belleville, officials said the project will be untaken by Wentworth Landscapes Ltd. whose contract was approved by Council in January of this year.  The project is slated to be completed by mid-to-end-July of this year.

City staff first began the public engagement process for the project last summer when they conducted an online survey to learn what residents would like to see in the park.

There were over 750 responses to the survey and the engagement provided great insight into what the community wanted to see in the park and play structure, the city said.

The top three proposals were then presented to residents during a Public Information Centre last winter and all information gathered was considered in the final recommendation to Council.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in our online survey and open house,” said Rowland Cave-Browne-Cave, Parks & Open Spaces Supervisor. “This exciting and inclusive new space will be a wonderful addition to not only the community east of Herchimer Avenue which has gone without a playground since 2015, but to the City as a whole.”

“This announcement comes as welcome news as we begin to look at ways to reopen our public spaces,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “We look forward to the completion of the project and inviting residents to use this new community space once current provincial restrictions have been lifted. In the meantime, I encourage residents to follow along for future updates.”
