A new executive has been named to try to fill the large shoes left among those responsible for the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame.
In a release, the Hall of Fame has announced Ian Press has become the new president of the committee, with Nancy Popovich as vice-president, Kerry MacKinnon secretary and Joe Bell treasurer.
Liane Woodley, Eric Lindenberg, and Jennifer Kerr are members at large.
The release noted that former president Dave Mills, who passed away in June, was “the driving force in re-establishing the Hall of Fame.
“A consummate leader, Dave worked with the community to bring the Hall of Fame back into focus after its brief hiatus in the early 2010s. We remain thankful for all his direction, contributions, and initiative; he is, and will continue to be, missed.”
The release added the committee has continued its “behind-the-scenes” work in preparation for the time the community can again celebrate Belleville’s athletic community.
The committee will be setting a date for its next induction ceremony soon and will also be looking to expand the committee through an application process that will take place this fall.
