The Member of Parliament for Hastings Lennox and Addington is reportedly running in the next federal election – in Alberta.
Derek Sloan, who was evicted from the Conservative Party caucus last year and has been sitting as an independent, is reportedly making an announcement Thursday night in Cochrane, Alta.
Sources who asked not to be identified say Sloan will announce he will run in the federal riding of Banff Airdrie against Conservative incumbent Blake Richards.
Richards is currently the Conservative Party whip. Cochrane is located in his riding.
In an email circulated to supporters, a release reportedly from Sloan notes he is in Alberta and he’s not leaving.
“It’s time for a change,” the release states. “It’s time to put Faith, Family and Freedom first again in this country.
“Let’s make Alberta great again.”
The release then invites people to join Sloan for an exciting announcement taking place at the Cochrane Curling Club at 6:30 p.m. local time.
People in Hastings Lennox and Addington may still get a chance to vote for a Sloan anyway despite the change of locale for their MP.
Sources say Sloan’s wife Jennifer will attempt to follow in her husband’s footsteps in HLA. That has not been officially confirmed by the Sloans.
