Quinte West OPP is celebrating retired and former police officers and civilian members with its annual Police Veterans’ Day.

The celebration honours those who have contributed to public safety in Quinte West.  This year’s event included a barbecue, cake cutting and social gathering at the Trent Port Marina in Trenton Thursday afternoon.

Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison addressed the crowd of about 30 people, saying the event brings together officers who have all made a difference in the community.

“A lot of these people would have worked hard for the City of Trenton, some of them for the OPP in Quinte West.  So it’s great just to have the opportunity to say hello and to thank them for what they’ve done.”

Quinte West OPP Detachment Commander and Inspector Christina Reive said the event recognizes the commitment of a number of officers who protected the community over the years.

“There are very few opportunities to get them together and pay honours for what they’ve done for the community.  I think it’s wonderful.”

Quinte West OPP began the annual celebration in 2013.
