Quinte West firefighters extinguish grass fire

Quinte West firefighters have put out their first grass fire of the season.

The blaze began at about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday along Boardmans Road, south of Stirling, and 14 fire personnel were on the scene for almost two hours.

There was evidence people had an earlier fire, and it reignited because it wasn't properly extinguished, and Fire Chief John Whelan reminds residents they need a permit if they're going to burn outside.

The fire department can charge $420 per truck per hour for any call where there isn't one.

Whelan said charges could be laid against the people responsible for the fire if investigators are able to determine who they are.
