Quinte Secondary School donates $8k at Closing Ceremony

Quinte Secondary School managed to raise $8,000 at their closing ceremony - "A Weekend to Remember", through silent auctions, for The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation.

The cheque was presented on Wednesday at Quinte Secondary School by principal Liane Woodley.

The proceeds were created through the silent auction of trophies, banners and other achievement awards of Quinte Secondary School. Organizers of the Closing Ceremony made the decision for this to "ensure that the history of Quinte Secondary School would live on in the homes of QSS Alumni."

Chair of The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation Susan Sweet, who the cheque was presented to, said that the donation will help support students in the local area:

"The generous donation will help ensure that all students have the support needed to realize well-being and success," she said.

The purpose of The Learning Foundation is to fundraise for programs and services that help students overcome barriers and help them succeed in school.

The donation will also specifically benefit the Student Emergency Fund, which received almost 100 more requests for support this year than in the 2016/17 school year.
