The public transportation service in Quinte West is expanding with the addition of a new bus route between Trenton and Frankford.
The city issued a media release stating Quinte Access will launch its service next Tuesday, at a cost of $4 each way.
The new bus will also connect travellers to the current transit system in Trenton, which they'll be able to use with a transfer.
The bus route will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, making one loop in the morning and another in the afternoon, with stops in Frankford, Batawa and various locations in Trenton.
Changes will be made once Trenton-Frankford Road reopens, possibly late this month.
“I am thrilled that we have been able to expand our public transit services to include Frankford,” says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “This will provide our residents with greater access to services, employment, events and more.”
The schedule and location of stops were chosen after a community consultation process that included initial surveys and meetings with stakeholder groups and a public meeting.
Residents were asked about their transportation needs, including preferred times and locations for pick-up and drop-off.
“We’re still accepting feedback on the route,” says Quinte Access Executive Director Shelly Ackers. “If this new service gets significant use, we will be able to look at the possibility of offering more days of the week and additional times.”
The new route is being made possible thanks to funds from the Government of Ontario through the Community Transportation Grant Program
