The Ministry of Transportation will begin to study a dangerous intersection in Prince Edward County.
Mayor Steve Ferguson said he received confirmation on Wednesday the province will start to look at intersection improvements at Highway 62 and County Road 1in Bloomfield. There will be an opportunity for the public to make comments about the intersection, he added.
"Additional information to follow, but I am relieved that the ministry realizes that the intersection deserves scrutiny to avoid more accidents or fatalities," he wrote in a post on Facebook. "I continue to press for construction of a roundabout."
Ferguson has been vocal about the need for a roundabout in previous meetings with the province. He showed Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney the interection and outlined safety concerns during a visit to the County last year.
Prince Edward OPP and The County's Traffic Advisory committee have also previously stressed their support of a roundabout in that area.
There have been numerous collisions in that area over the years and most recently seven people were taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection in July.
