The CEO's of the South East Local Health Integration Network, and eight other LHINs, have been let go as the province takes another step toward creating its health super agency.
Ontario's 14 LHIN's and six health agencies will be consolidated into a new organization called Ontario Health, for an estimated $350 million a year in savings.
The number of CEO's across the province has been reduced from 14 to five, and they will serve as interim regional leads, with the South East LHIN being aligned with the Champlain LHIN in Eastern Ontario and the Central East LHIN, just to the west.
South East LHIN CEO Paul Huras was not among the CEO's retained by the government, and the nine people losing their jobs will receive a total of $3 million in severance.
Health Minister Christine Elliott also announced on Wednesday major health agencies, such as Cancer Care Ontario and eHealth, will be put under the new umbrella as of Dec. 2
