A major Belleville intersection was closed for most of the day on Friday following a serious crash involving an OPP cruiser Thursday night.

Belleville police say the intersection at Sidney Street and Dundas Street West was expected to reopen between 8 and 9 pm (on Friday).

Five people were injured in the serious crash which occured around 10:30 pm on Thursday when a marked OPP cruiser and a second vehicle collided at that location.

Two OPP officers, an adult in police custody and two civilians were transported to BGH with various injuries.

Belleville police also confirmed the province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating the crash and arrived on scene Friday afternoon.
