North Trenton Public School Grade 6 graduates may move to Trenton High School

North Trenton Public School Grade 6 graduates may move to Trenton High School

Another elementary school has been added to the list of schools probably sending some of their students to Trenton High School next September.

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board's Student Enrolment/School Capacity Committee approved a motion on Jan. 8 asking the board to relocate Grade 7 and 8 pupils from Trent River, Prince Charles and V.P. Carswell Public Schools to the secondary school to address space issues, and North Trenton Public School is now included in those discussions.

That school's Grade 6 graduates have gone to Trent River Public School for Grade 7 and then Grade 8, but the board's communications officer, Kerry Donnell, says that would end because those grades will no longer be offered at Trent River.

There are only about a dozen Grade 6 students at North Trenton Public who will start Grade 7 in September.

The board expects around 220 new Grade 7 and 8 students from the four elementary schools will attend Trenton High in the fall.

The commitee will consider a staff report next Monday, asking that the Grade 7 and 8 students be moved to the secondary school.
