Docs By The Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention is pleased to announce that they have recruited another family doctor for the area. Dr. Getnet Asrat, an Ottawa physician, has signed Medical Service Agreements with the City of Quinte West and the Municipality of Brighton, to practice family medicine in both communities beginning later this year. He will be joining the practice of Dr. Stephen Evans, a former colleague, who was instrumental in making the connection between Dr. Asrat and Paula Mason, Manager of Physician Recruitment and Retention for Docs by the Bay.
Dr. Asrat is the 14th family physician recruited by Docs by the Bay since its inception 5 years ago. He obtained his medical degree from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Asrat also holds an MHSc Degree from the University of British Columbia – Vancouver and a Certificate in Emergency Medicine from the Canadian College of Family Physicians.
Dr. Asrat is very excited to be coming to the area. “I was exploring a final destination, for the remaining years of my career, that would be closer to Toronto. I was invited by my colleague Dr. Steve Evans to see the community that he loves. He gave me a sense of belonging in the community and offered me the chance to join his practice. While he drove me around the communities of Brighton and Trenton, I mentioned my interest in a humanitarian job in medicine and he said ‘You are in the right place, most people in this community have no doctor.’ So, here I am, and I thank you for allowing me to be part of these beautiful communities.” remarked Dr. Asrat.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison was pleased to meet Dr. Asrat today. “Welcome to the City of Quinte West. We appreciate and value your Medical skills, and thank you for choosing to join our Medical team.” he remarked.
Brian Ostrander, Mayor of the Municipality of Brighton added “We are very excited to welcome Dr. Asrat to the community. The hard work of Docs By The Bay and the Evans team are paying dividends for primary healthcare in Brighton. We look forward to seeing Dr. Asrat in Brighton when the Dundas Street clinic re-opens this fall!”
Dr. Asrat will be building his roster through Health Care Connect and patients will be notified directly from HCC with regard to registration.
Docs By The Bay is sponsored by Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the City of Quinte West and the Municipality of Brighton.
