Youth football in Quinte will have a new look and a new name in 2019.

Belleville Minor Football and No Limits Youth Organization have announced the league will be officially called Quinte Skyhawks Minor Football League starting this year.

The Quinte Skyhawks joined the Ontario Varsity Football League two years ago.

Belleville Minor Football League began in 1995 after a team from Belleville spent three years prior in the Kingston Minor Football League.

For 15 years, the league operated with two teams from Trenton, three in Belleville and one from Bancroft in a spring league. The league expanded by two teams in 2010 with the addition of Trent Hills Titans and Centre Hastings Centurions. In 2016, Bayside joined.

Gary Parcels and Dick Howe, the conveyers of BMFL stated that joining the Skyhawks organization is “a natural fit for our league” and will be be a “positive step for our minor program.”

Peter Gabriel, president of the Skyhawks, echoed the sentiment.

“Our minor program is extremely important to the success of our varsity programs and having everything together is only going to strengthen both levels of football,” he stated in a release.

Currently the No Limits/Skyhawks organization runs a touch/flag football league for youth ages 7-16, summer and winter camps, along with the Varsity programs.  The addition of minor football will put football for the Quinte area under one organization.

Both Minor and Varsity programs are gearing up for their spring seasons.  Tryouts for the Skyhawks are at the end of March and registrations for QSMFL are beginning next week.  For more information about registrations or tryouts go to www.skyhawksfootball.ca or www.bellevilleminorfootball.com.
