After starting with a bang, two local teams went ice cold in the semifinals of the Travelers Zone 3 curling playdowns Sunday afternoon.
Dennis Murray and Julie Jarvis, both of Quinte Curling Club, fell in their semifinal games at the national club championship playdowns at QCC in Belleville over the weekend.
Murray gave up a steal of three points in the sixth end of what had been a tie game, eventually falling 6-2 to Kyle Thompson of Cataraqui Curling Club.Murray and his crew of Thor Parker, Kyle Martin and Shane Barnes, with Randy Hutchison filling in on Sunday, won their first two games big on Saturday, over Billy Woods of Dalhousie Lake Curling Club 9-1 and Brice Rowe of Napanee 10-1.
Jarvis just could never get her game going Sunday, giving up a steal of 2 in the second and 1 in the third before eventually falling 9-2 to Carole Rivington of Royal Kingston Curling Club.
It was a remarkable turnaround for Jarvis and her rink of third Stephanie Taft, Second Kerri Lott and Cindy Grills, who didn't give up Saturday drubbing Katherine Jessup of Carleton Heights Curling Club 7-0 and Emily Dyson of Cataraqui 9-0.
The Travelers is the national championship for individual club championship teams from across the country. This year's finals are in Ottawa Nov. 23-28.
