Leons and Golden Hawks unveil Special Edition Jersey

Whoa, check it out, special edition.

Leon’s Trenton, in partnership with the Trenton Golden Hawks unveiled their brand new, 2018-2019 season, special edition jersey on Saturday, September 8.

The jersey is available for a limited time for fans to purchase, with all of the net proceeds from the jersey sales going towards the Leon’s Trenton Buy-A-Bed Campaign.

The Buy-A-Bed Campaign seeks to raise funding for new beds at Trenton Memorial Hospital.

“This year we were adding another element to (Buy-A-Bed Campaign), which is our newly formed partnership with the Trenton Golden Hawks,” said Mike Eden, Owner of Leon’s Trenton.

“John McDonald and the team liked what we were doing with the program, so we asked them to get involved and they were more than happy to do so. The timeliness worked out well because they were just in the midst of producing a third jersey and we were able to integrate that jersey into the Buy-A-Bed Campaign.”

The third jersey is something that the team wears during special occasions, and was originally designed to honour this military.

“The NHL has decided they are not going to do the Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys that we wear, so we said okay, fine, we got to redesign a new jersey, let’s redesign the thirds too,” said John McDonald, Director of Operations for the Trenton Golden Hawks.

The special edition third jersey is available for $100, with the net proceeds all going towards Buy-A-Bed Campaign.

“Our cost on the jersey, we’re just telling people, is $60. So the $40 profit that comes out of the sale of these jerseys is going directly to our Buy-A-Bed Campaign,” said Eden. “Every 100 jerseys we sell is another $4,000. It’s $8,000 to buy a bed, so for every 200 jerseys, we’re buying another bed.”

Eden said that they ordered 100 jerseys to start, ranging in sizes small to extra large, but he hopes they will be able to order 100 every week.

“We’re going to wear these sweaters at our home opener next Friday night, so it’s kind of exciting and we thought this would be a great time to unveil it and make some money for the hospital,” said McDonald.

While anyone who attended the unveiling ceremony could get an early shot at purchasing one of the special edition jerseys, fans will get a second chance during the season home opener on Friday, September 14.

“It’s just a neat thing,” said Eden. “If you got a fan of the team or you’re just a fan of being part of our community, this is a great thing to do.”

“We’re pretty excited. It’s going to be pretty cool.”
