An affordable home is ready for one local family.

Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Hastings announced on Friday, partner family applications will open Monday and will be accepted from qualified applicants to purchase a neighbourhood single-family home at 633 Sidney Street East in Belleville.  Applying involves a review of a family’s financial situation, their need for more affordable housing, and their capacity to form a partnership with Habitat for  Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings.

Hazzem Koudsi, Executive Director said they have been working behind the scenes to ready HFHPEH for an influx of Partner Family  Applications for homes to be located at the recent ground-breaking at 639 Sidney Street (a  future duplex), and the proposed project at the former Belleville Police Services Headquarters at 93 Dundas Street East

“It’s been many months of discussions and considerations amongst many partnering organizations, and it seems that good things happen in threes," Koudsi said.  "With our recent announcements about 93 Dundas and 639 Sidney, 633 Sidney was a windfall for HFHPEH and a  new home for a family in early 2023. We are really excited to be able to secure and sell another home to a hard-working family in our region.”

Bridget Purdy, Habitat’s Affiliate Services Coordinator, is looking forward to getting to know the  Applicant Families, some of whom will become Partner Families embarking on a long-term partnership with HFHPEH.

“The application and review process for this particular home will occur over a relatively tight timeframe. beginning a long-term relationship with Habitat that may last 20 years or more," Purdy said.  "The application and review process, and selecting families with the right fit with the mission of HFHPEH, is a critically important first step."

Habitat welcomes applications beginning Monday, October 31, until Friday, November 25th.  Applications are available on their website. Applicant Families who are selected to continue the multi-step qualification process will be required to attend one of two information sessions set for December 3 at 10:00 a.m. or December 5 at 6:30 p.m., both being held at HFHPEH’s head office on Bell Boulevard. Attending one of these sessions and successfully meeting the financial criteria will allow Applicants to proceed to a Needs Assessment (due by December 9) and then arrange a Home Visit from Habitat staff the first week of January 2023.

Families interested in learning more about the application process can visit Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings online.
