The Trenton Golden Hawks had a much easier game on their hearts Sunday afternoon, topping the Whitby Fury 4-1 in Game 2 to open up a 2-0 lead in the best of seven Southeast Conference Quarter-Final series.
After firing more than 77 shots in an overtime victory in Game 1 at home, the G-Hawks established their presence early on, scoring three times in the first period.
The O.T. hero in Game 1, Andrew Suriyuth, helped Tyler Nielsen strike for Trenton early, sliding a backhand pass across the Fury crease to the Ridgewood, New Jersey native for the opening tally more than one minute in.
Cameron Gaylor drew the second helper on Nielsen's first goal of the playoffs.
Dalton Bancroft found twine at the four-minute mark for what eventually turned out to be the game-winning tally, his second of the series in as many games was helped out by Kyle Robinson and Matt Nastasiuk.
Late in the frame, a big drive from the point courtesy of Bancroft offered up a huge rebound for a pinching Colin Van Den Hurk, who hit the target perfectly and stretched Trenton's lead out to three.
Griffen Fox assisted on Van Den Hurk's first of the postseason.
Whitby cut into the Golden Hawks lead in the deep stage of the second stanza on a Michael Andrews tally, but wouldn't come any closer.
Suriyuth restored the three-goal bulge with his third playoff marker at 4:57 of the final frame, aided by Cameron Gaylor and Julien Jacob, to round out the scoring.
For the second consecutive contest, Trenton cleared the 50-shot milestone, outshooting Whitby 51-34. Anand Oberoi made 33 saves in the win.
The G-Hawks aim to take a stranglehold on the series Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. back at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens.
