Two star players on local junior hockey teams have been rewarded for their excellent play this season by their loyal fans.

Tyson Gilmour of the Wellington Dukes and Tyler Ignazzitto of the Trenton Golden Hawks were their respective team's recipients of the 2019 Scotiabank Ontario Junior Hockey League Fan Favourite Award.

Gilmour,a 20-year old native of Toronto, was acquired in a trade by the Dukes last summer and has notched 20 goals and 58 points in 52 games this season, good for second on the team in scoring.

Napanee product Ignazzitto, 18, played his last two seasons with his hometown Napanee Raiders and recorded 26 points in 37 games for Trenton in the 2018-19 campaign.

Over 230,000 votes were cast through a span of almost two months for all 22 OJHL teams, a record for the award since it was first introduced in the 2011-12 season.

The league-wide Fan Favourite Award will be announced at a ceremony in the spring.

Previous local winners of the award were Blayne Oliver (2015-16) and Chris Janzen (2016-17), both of the Golden Hawks. Oliver was also a runner-up in 2014-15, as was former Duke Mitch Mendonca in 2016-17.
