UPDATE: Armstrong running for mayor in Quinte West

Quinte West has been the hot spot for nominations on the first day candidates could file for the upcoming municipal election.

Six people officially filed to seek office in October, including Coun. Duncan Armstrong filing to run for the mayor’s job.

Incumbent Jim Harrison has said for months he will be seeking re-election, although he hasn’t filed his papers yet.

Armstrong, a former teacher at Trenton High School, successfully ran for councillor in Trenton Ward in 2014.

He filed his papers Tuesday afternoon then did a Facebook Live presentation to officially launch his campaign.

The live video took place at 93 Scott Street, which Armstrong said was the first home he lived in when his father transferred to 424 Squadron at 8 Wing.

Armstrong recounted numerous people he met growing up in the house and going to school at Trenton High, in what he said was a “little different way of introducing myself to you.”

He acknowledged he had big shoes to fill and wished everyone running the best of luck in the campaign.

Joining Armstrong in running in Quinte West are Sidney Ward councillors Allen DeWitt and Don Kuntze who have both put their names for re-election. Also runnin are Ward 1 councillor Sally Freeman and Ward 3 councillor David McCue. Lynda Reid has filed in Ward 4 where her husband Keith Reid is the incumbent. Keith Reid has confirmed he will not be seeking re-election.
