A fire tore through the Trent Hills Concrete Plant in Campbellford early Tuesday morning causing $1-million in damages.

Trent Hills Fire Chief Tim Blake said when firefighters arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m., the building on 1780 Burnbrae Road was fully engulfed in flames.

"When we responded we found the building fully involved," he explained.  "It was extinguished, there was no spread, no injuries to firefighters or any occupants because nobody was there at the time."

Blake said the scene has been secured with a fence around it as they continue the investigation.

"Nothing suspicious just to see if we can find the origin and cause over the next couple of days," he explained.  "At the top of this where they dump gravel into it had a big shoot - probably weighs about 80 tonne - collapsed down on the building so until we get that moved we can't get in to do a proper investigation."

The hopper collapsed onto 1,000 square foot building that contained office space and weigh scale below.

Damages from the fire are around $1-million and the Trent Hills Concrete will be 'out of business for a little while, he stated.

The business' insurance company, Trent Hills Fire and the OPP are investigating.

"Again nothing suspicious," Blake reiterated.  "We are just trying to find out what happened.  If there is something that we can find out that happened and can prevent somewhere else at some other cement plant or something because there were a lot of intricate parts in there to keep the gravel from freezing up."

Blake said they expect to have more details by the end of the week.
