The councillor who stepped in as Prince Edward County's mayor while Robert Quaiff ran in the provincial election wants the job on a full time basis.
Ameliasburgh councillor Dianne O'Brien, who was the acting mayor for several weeks while Quaiff campaigned as the Liberal candidate in Bay of Quinte riding, filed her nomination papers at Shire Hall in Picton on Monday.
The 12-year council veteran had no plans to run for mayor, but said doing the job temporarily convinced her council did many things well, but could do them even better.
O'Brien, said as mayor , she would ensure council spends its tax dollars wisely, and promote more growth in the county.
She added she also received a lot of encouragement from local residents to seek the mayor's position while she was filling in for Quaiff.
O'Brien joined South Marysburgh councillor Steve Ferguson vying for the top job on council.
Also filing papers on Monday was Consecon resident Ernest Margetson, who will be seeking the council seat in Hillier Ward. Incumbent councillor Steve Graham has already filed his papers seeking re-election.
Even with the second candidate in Hillier, only one third of the PEC wards are set to have elections with five -- Ameliasburg, Picton, Athol, Sophiasburg, and North Marysburgh -- set to be acclaimed. No one has yet filed in South Marysburgh. Deadline for filing is July 27 by 2 p.m
