Quinte West firefighters battled a blaze at the Sonoco paper plant in Trenton on Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to 864 Trenton/Frankford Road around 8 a.m. after a fire was reported in the main mill on the eastside.  The plant is located along that road at 5 Bernard Long Road.

Fire Chief John Whalen stated the blaze started in a unit called an economizer.

"Firefighters contained the fire to the unit," he explained.  "In house fire brigade assisted our units in extinguishing the fire."

There were no injuries or damage estimates available.

Crews were on the scene for an hour.
