The majority of businesses in Quinte West are still thriving, according to a recent Business Retention and Expansion report.

The survey, undertaken by city staff and consulting firm Strexer Harrop and Associates, included feedback from 60 local businesses in the local retail, commercial and technology sectors to identify needs and opportunities for growth in the municipality.

Highlighting the poll was the fact that 77-per cent of business operators responded that their industry is stable or growing, while 31-per cent plan to expand in the next 18 months.

Also, 90-per cent of operators stated they are satisfied with their current location.

However, 60-per cent noted a lack of reliable, high-speed internet.

“It is very encouraging to see such positive feedback from local businesses despite the current pandemic situation,” stated Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Services Linda Lisle.

“Now that we have gained this valuable insight, we can work towards improving the resources available to businesses to continue to foster growth in our community.”

Lisle added focusing on existing businesses allows the City to promote job growth, create action-oriented strategies to support the local economy, and prioritize projects based on what is important to the business community.

Mayor Jim Harrison stated in a media release the city is optimistic results and strategies outlined in the report will help continue to assist businesses to survive, thrive and grow.

The full report can be found on the city's website.
