The City of Belleville is again showing its support for initiatives aimed at ending gender-based violence.

Councillor Garnet Thompson joined members of GRANquinte and the Three Oaks Foundation to raise the Wrapped in Courage flag at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre on Friday morning.  Also the Bridge Street Bridge, Belleville sign and Firefighters Garden will be lit purple in honour of the cause.

Nov. 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the United Nations 16 days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence.

This November marks both Woman Abuse Prevention Month and the 10th Anniversary of Ontario’s Wrapped in Courage Campaign. Gender-based violence agencies across Ontario are asking leaders and community members to wear a purple scarf to show their commitment to ending femicide and all forms of gender-based violence.

The purple scarf is a symbol of the courage needed by communities in supporting survivors of violence, the commitment to turn awareness into accountability and action and to ultimately end gender-based violence.
