Belleville gets a new taste of the Caribbean

People looking for a taste of the Caribbean in Belleville now need to look no further than Bell Boulevard.

Caribbean Jerk Spot held a Grand Opening ribbon cutting Wednesday at their new location at the strip mall at the corner of Bell Boulevard and Sidney Street.

Owners Lorna and Dennis were both born in Jamaica and moved to Canada more than 30 years ago where they settled in Toronto. They ran the successful The Caribbean Dutchpot at the corner of Broadview and Danforth until they decided to take a break from city life and retire in the country.

Upon their arrival in Belleville, they signed up for the Belleville Farmer’s Market and sold their Homemade Jerk Seasoning, Jerk Chicken, Soups, Jamaican Beef, and Chicken/Veggie patties there.

That eventually grew into Caribbean Jerk Spot which offers take out and catering services. It is open every day, except for Saturdays; they close at sunset on Friday evenings and reopen on Sunday.

The Caribbean Jerk Spot is located at 690 Sidney St., or you can visit them online
