Bancroft OPP is doing its part to keep drivers safe on the roads this holiday season.
The service is taking part in the Festive RIDE campaign to help reduce alcohol and drug impairment on community roads.
During the campaign, which runs until January 2, 2023, the motoring public can expect to see an increased OPP presence as officers conduct RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the Bancroft area.
The OPP stated the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows police with an approved alcohol screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without having reasonable suspicion that a driver is alcohol impaired.
They advise people to plan ahead if they are drinking or consuming drugs by calling a taxi or a designated driver, or taking public transit, among other options.
If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life.
