Canadians can expect to pay more for food next year, an annual food price report predicts.
A joint annual report released Monday by the University of Guelph in Ontario and Halifax's Dalhousie University estimates overall food prices will rise between 1.5 and 3.5 per cent.
That means the average Canadian family of four will spend $12,157 next year, up $411 from 2018 and roughly $150 more for dining out in 2019.
Vegetables will see the highest jump, an expected four to six per cent due to weather causing poor growing conditions.
For the first time in the report's nine-year history, it expects meat and seafood prices to fall slightly.
