Alf Curtis says “There’s never been a better time to build”

There’s never been a better time to build; just ask the Curtis family.

Alf Curtis Home Improvements celebrates the Grand Opening of the Quinte West store this weekend.

The ribbon cutting took place Friday afternoon, with dignitaries from neighbouring municipalities as well as MPP Todd Smith on hand to welcome the Curtis family to the Quinte area.  Quinte West mayor Jim Harrison, deputy mayor Jim Alyea and councillor Sally Freeman showed their support with councillor Garnet Thompson echoing the regional support from the City of Belleville.

It is no wonder the family atmosphere pervades when you walk on site of Alf Curtis Home Improvements.

The family-owned Castle building centre, located on Old Highway 2, just west of Loyalist Wallbridge Road in Quinte West, opened its doors in the fall of 2015.

Alf Curtis Home Improvements Inc. is a generational family business.  Their first store was opened in Peterborough by Alf and June Curtis in 1975.  They expanded with a roof and truss plant in 2002, then added a second Lindsay store in 2005.

Four generations of Curtises are involved in the business today, including two children learning the ropes during the summer months with full-time jobs.

Their grandson, Brent Perry now sits in the President’s chair, but Alf and June still retain those work ethics that takes them in to the store every day.

The Quinte West store shares their focus between the retail market and the contractor supply service.

“To be successful you need both sides to really work,” Brent says. “We hope to show Quinte great customer service.  That is what it is really about.”

This family philosophy has aided in the continued success of Alf Curtis Home Improvements Inc.

“If you don’t have customers, you don’t have a business,” Brent noted.

The Grand Opening celebration continues through Saturday with “no tax” from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Customers are invited to enjoy hourly draw prizes, with a grand prize of a $2000 Travel Voucher and a charity BBQ.

Watch for Jenn McKay from Cool100 and 95.5HitsFM on site Saturday afternoon from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
