100 Men Who Care support Hospice Quinte

BELLEVILLE – Hospice Quinte is the newest recipient of a generous donation presented by the local charitable group, 100 Men Who Care Quinte.

On Monday afternoon, 100 Men Who Care’s founder Ken Manderville and his father (and fellow member) Dr. Gene Manderville presented them with a cheque for $11,500.

“It warms my heart dearly to know that our community continues to support us and all the programs we have to offer,” said Hospice Quinte’s executive director Helen Dowdall.

Hospice Quinte is a visiting agency that offers respite care, counseling, companionship and other services to those of all ages who have been diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses.

“We like to say we support people from zero to 99 (years old),” said Dowdall.

According to board member Julie Lange, nearly 70% of Hospice Quinte’s operational funds are attained through donations and fundraising efforts.

“We rely on our very generous community,” said Lange. “(100 Men Who Care) could have chosen any number of charities.”

According to Dr. Manderville, who nominated the charity, it was the organization’s bereavement counseling program for children that set them apart from the many other nominees.

“I thought (the bereavement counseling for children) was a much-needed thing,” said Dr. Manderville. “It’s an area that is often overlooked because children are often shunted aside when everyone is grieving.”

With over $35,000 raised to date for various local charities, Ken Manderville said the 100 Men Who Care Quinte would continue to do what they could to help their communities.

They will decide who receives their next donation on February 29th.
