Quinte Judo Club Frankford
Judo classes are on!
The Quinte Judo Club's season has started in Frankford, at the Quinte Masonic Centre. Want to learn a Martial Art while practicing an Olympic sport, then this may be just the place for you!
Judo is similar to Olympic Wrestling with the throws & pinning someone down. The difference being for the more older Judo students (14 yrs & up) chokes & arm locks are introduced. Safety is strongly promoted however, so Judoka (Judo students) are taught to get the manoeuver firmly in place and then apply the pressure to force a tap out of your opponent (which ends a match). The goal in a Judo match is to subdue an opponent, not injure them. Tell that to an attacker in a self-defence situation, who grabs hold of a Judoka & doesn't know Ukemi (how to fall properly)!
Proper break falls are always practiced in a Judo class, for safety/confidence.
The Quinte Judo club runs an all ages class, which is great for those parents that are tired of waiting around for their child to finish practice. There are not many opportunities to participate in a physical activity at the same time as your child and reap the fitness benefits. Not all adults participating however are parents, so you still get a fair bit of variety. If you are competitive in nature, this club routinely participates in events around the province, and in the past has sent 4 students to the Nationals!
Classes are held on Mondays & Wednesdays from 7pm-8:30pm for this non-profit sports organization. Rates are extremely reasonable, largely due to the generosity of the Mason's. All you need to get started is some exercise friendly clothing, and then Judo gi's (outfits) can be purchased once interest is confirmed.
