Tentative agreement reached to end month-plus college support staff worker strike

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 15, 2025 | 11:52 AM

The union representing more than 10,000 full-time college support staff at Ontario’s 24 colleges has reached a tentative agreement after nearly five weeks on strike.

Reports are coming in indicating that picket lines will come down on Wednesday after OPSEU reached a tentative agreement to end the stalemate.

The support staff are scheduled to return to work Thursday.

Terms of the proposed settlement are not yet known.

Workers have been demanding better wages, benefits and job security, which they said was a critical concern amid campus closures, program cuts, and layoffs in the college sector.

160 support staff employees at Loyalist College are represented by OPSEU Local 421.

They have been on strike since Sept. 11.

A message to Loyalist management for comment has not yet been returned.
