Quinte West woman charged in rental fraud investigation

A Quinte West woman has been charged for allegedly offering a property for rent, accepting payment and not allowing the tenant to move in.

Quinte West OPP were called to a residence in Carrying Place on May 9 for a report of a fraud.

It was reported to police first and last months’ rent had been paid to a person portraying themselves as the owner of the property.

When the new tenant arrived on their move in date, they were turned away, police said.

Following an investigation Heather Todd, 36 was charged with fraud under $5,000, obtaining by false pretence under $5,000 and use of a forged document

Todd was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Belleville court on July 6.
