By Hailey MacDonald Nov 4, 2025 | 6:06 AM

An inmate at Bath Institution near Kingston died over the weekend.

Sofyan Boalag, an inmate from Bath Institution, died while in custody on Saturday.

At the time of death, the inmate was 46 years old and had been serving an indeterminate sentence, since November 9, 2017.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

At this time, further information regarding the cause of death is not available. A quality-of-care review will be conducted to examine the facts surrounding the offender’s death, and the cause of death will be determined by the Coroner.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will also review the circumstances.
