There was a house fire in Belleville on Wednesday morning.
Belleville fire responded to a house fire on Edward Street at 8:04 am.
Firefighters made a fast attack and brought the fire under control in minutes.
Damage was limited to the kitchen area, with total damages estimated to be approximately $250,000.
There were no injuries, and all occupants were able to escape safely.
Belleville police blocked off the road and Hastings Quinte Paramedics were in standby in case of injury.
Investigators from Belleville Fire are on scene and more information is expected later today.
As we celebrate the holidays, we would like to take this opportunity to remind the community about key fire safety practices:
1. Develop and practice a home fire escape plan: Ensure everyone in your household knows two ways out of every room and a designated meeting place outside.
2. Test and maintain smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Test alarms monthly, replace batteries as needed, and ensure you have working alarms on every level of your home.
3. Cook with caution. Never leave cooking unattended, especially during holiday meals. Keep flammable items away from the stovetop and create a kid-free zone of at least three feet around cooking areas.
