The BFC Royals became the 2025 Bay of Quinte Men’s Masters (over 35) League Cup Champs thanks to a hard fought 2-1 victory over The Belleville Old Boys at Bain Park in Quinte West Monday night.
BFC opened the scoring late in the first half with a cheeky chip over the keeper’s head by Josh Lavigne, to put them up 1-0 at the half.
A second half penalty miss by Lavigne was followed by frantic play, as The Old Boys pressed for the equalizer. One the area’s best players, Alex Serpa, was pressing forward for The Old Boys and was eventually awarded a PK, and Serpa confidently made it 1-1.
But, it was directly after the ensuing kickoff that BFC Royals showed their grit, skill and determination, working the ball up the field to have Pat Foran finish a spectacular goal crashing off the post, and to win a historic trophy for the Royals
The Masters Over 35 Division has been around since 2008, and this is the very first title win by the proud lads from BFC. Team leader Dennis Oskamp could not have been prouder of his team.
“I’ve seen all the losses and a few wins and now finally a victory (and) I’m the only member of the original team. All of my teammates played fantastic. This is a wonderful league with over 500 members playing every season enjoying the beautiful game.”
The league is always looking for new players and you can check out the Bay of Quinte Men’s Soccer League at www.bqsl.ca or email at: bofqmslpresident@gmail.com.
