Social media reports indicate the intersection of Centre Street & Palace/River Road is blocked due to a motor vehicle collision.

Paramedics and Greater Napanee Fire are on the scene of the crash, which was reported before 6 p.m.

The OPP have released the following statement, as school buses get rolling more over the next two week in the region.

As students across Ontario return to the classroom, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert and exercise extra caution as school zones become busier and traffic increases during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. While some school districts have already resumed classes, many others will welcome students back on September 8, resulting in increased traffic volumes near schools, school bus stops, and pedestrian crossings.

One of the most important responsibilities drivers share is ensuring the safety of children boarding and exiting school buses. When approaching a school bus displaying flashing amber lights, motorists should be prepared to stop. Amber lights indicate the bus is preparing to load or unload passengers and will soon activate its red overhead warning lights.

Once a school bus has stopped and its red overhead warning lights are flashing, drivers must stop, as required by law, and remain stopped until the red lights are no longer flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn. On roads without a physical median, traffic travelling in both directions must stop. On roads separated by a physical median, only vehicles travelling behind the bus are required to stop.

Pedestrians also play an important role in road safety. Students and parents are encouraged to use designated crosswalks and intersections whenever possible. Before crossing the road, look left, right, and left again, make eye contact with drivers, and ensure vehicles have stopped before stepping into the roadway. Where crossing guards are present, always follow their instructions.

Whether travelling by vehicle, bicycle, school bus, or on foot, everyone has a responsibility to help keep children safe.

On Sunday, August 23rd, the Northumberland County OPP were called to a residence on Langs Road, after property was stolen.

The suspect, Andrew Crowe of Alnwick Haldimand Township was arrested and charged on Tuesday. The 39-year-old is charged with theft and mischief under $5,000, along with breaking into a house with intent to commit an offence.

Crowe has a November court date.

Police stopped the vehicle just before 3 p.m., on Thomas Street. The stop was in connection to a police investigation.

Three people from Napanee were in the vehicle, arrested, and charged. The OPP uncovered over 110 grams of suspected cocaine in the vehicle, along with a few grams of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine. Police found two knives, a metal baton, and over $2,000 in Canadian currency, cellphones, and drug trafficking items.

Cody Brooks, a 31-year-old from Napanee was charged with:

• Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5000
• Possession of weapon contrary to a prohibition order
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Possession of a prohibited device

Darlene Brooks, a 58-year-old from Napanee was charged with:

• Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5000
• Fail to comply with a probation order

Patricia Smith, a 49-year-old from Napanee was charged with

• Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5000
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Fail to comply with a release order – three counts

The three residents were held for a local bail hearing.

Mayor Ostrander expressed to Council earlier this year the need to reach out, amid the renewed start of U.S. trade tensions and tariffs.

Ostrander’s idea to establish a Twinning Charter with Brighton, New York was warmly received.

Bill Moehle, the Supervisor for the Town of Brighton, New York, official signed the document in a ceremony north of the border, that members of the public and Brighton (Ontario) Council attended.

Police have learned that multiple thefts have happened in Trenton and the surrounding area. The police investigation has led officers to believe that there was a possible single suspect connected.

Officers with the Quinte West and Prince Edward County detachments executed a search warrant on Tuesday, August 18th, at a property in Consecon. Police uncovered roughly $30,000 of stolen items on the Prince Edward County property.

The items uncovered included tools, an ATV and side-by-side utility vehicle. Police also found ammunition.

The suspect, Reian Wallace of Consecon, is facing the following charges.

• Possession of stolen property over $5000 – two counts
• Possession of stolen property under $5000
• Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
• Fail to comply with probation order
• Theft of electricity or gas

The 28-year-old has a court date in Belleville on October 1st.

Police continue to investigate and are encouraging anyone with information about this incident or other thefts, to contact the Quinte West OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers.

The OPP responded to a report just before 1 p.m., about a possible impaired driver who had left a business in Loyalist Township. Police located the suspected vehicle at a residence in Bath.

The suspected driver blew three and half times over the legal blood alcohol limit, as a result of a breathalyzer test at the OPP station.

The suspect, Jan Oliver of Loyalist-Township, is facing impaired driving charges, and operating while prohibited under the Criminal Code. The 52-year-old was held for a bail hearing in Napanee. Their driver’s license was also suspended.

Police have announced that three people fled on foot, when the arrived at a residence on Grand Road.  Officers have not revealed what prompted their search warrant, but add that all three were arrested nearby.

The OPP also seized a loaded firearm and are currently looking for a fourth person they claim was connected with the incident.

David Munford, Shane McLean, and Kelly Scott are all facing various firearm related charges. The OPP are asking anyone with further information to contact their office or Crime Stoppers.
