Shoppers Drug Mart in Belleville now offers Compounding
Shoppers Drug Mart located at 405 Dundas St East in Belleville, has now added a compounding facility to the pharmacy. Qualified staff will now be able to prepare sterile and non-sterile preparations in a safe environment. Pharmaceutical compounding is a method for personalising medication to fit the unique needs of a patient.
What is compounding? And how can it help me?
Patients that cannot swallow capsules or tablets can now get them made into an alternative dosage form. Disguising the taste of certain paediatric medications, will now make it easier to ensure compliance in our younger population. Other frequently compounded preparations include treatment for pain management; hormone replacement therapy (HRT); injections for erectile dysfunction(ED) and medications for pregnancy/fertility. Certain discontinued medications, as well as medications that are temporarily not available will now be available in a suitable replacement formula.
Can it help with my pets’ medications?
Veterinary compounding takes into consideration the unique habits and taste preferences of your pet. The most popular compounding solutions are oral pastes, creams, ointments, gels, oral liquids and chewable treats.
Is it safe?
We have invested in numerous pieces of equipment including a compounding aseptic isolator glove box and an XPert fume hood. The glove box provides the ultimate in product protection. It can be used to prepare drip sets, injections, CADDs and numerous other sterile preparations. The fume hood provides user protection by keeping powders, particulates and fumes contained during weighing and compounding procedures.
