HORNE, Rev. Sidney Gordon "Padre Sid"...died peacefully at his residence on Sunday July 2nd, 2017 in his 93rd year.
Predeceased by his loving wife and best friend, Helen (nee Wood) of 58 years. Cherished father of Gordon Horne & his wife Darlene, and Ash Campbell. Proud grandfather of Tesha (Ron), Glenn, Courtney, Caleigh and Mackenzie, and great grandfather of Desmond, Tanner and Kyra. Sid is survived by his sister Jessie Horne and his brother Frank Horne. Predeceased by his parents Gordon & Daisy Horne, his siblings Emory Horne, Muriel May, Evelyn Martin, and also by his nephews Dr. Bill Wood and Tom Martin. Fondly remembered by Dr. Bill's wife Sandie. Padre Sid Horne, graduate of the College of St. Chad's 1951 and ordained into the Anglican Church of Canada, received an Hon. Doctorate of Divinity in May 2012. Padre spent a total of 32.5 years as a Military Chaplain, including 6 months in the Middle East as a Chaplain to the Canadian Contingent of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, Defense Observation Force of the Middle East (Egypt). He was honoured in 1995 by being made Hon. Chaplain of CFB Trenton. As well, he was an Honourary Assistant at St. George's Anglican Church Trenton since 1971, former Chaplain to the Royal Canadian Legion area branches, 413 Wing Association, Hastings Prince Edward Regimental Association (Famous Hasty P's), and the first Chaplain to the National Canadian Air Force Association. He celebrated his 60th year of Ordination in 2011. After retirement from the Military Chaplaincy, he became a Parish Priest to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, serving from 1987 - 1994. The Chief Band Council honoured the Padre by making him an Honourary Chaplain, inducted into the Mohawk Tribe and given the name "RA WEN NEN HA WE" , which means "The Carrier of the Word". The late Bob Campney, former Mayor of Quinte West, referred to Sid as "Everyone's Padre". His kindness and support of others earned him the Ontario's Senior Citizen of the Year award in 2008. He was also a Life Member of the Masonic Lodge (66 years) and was provided with a personal letter of congratulations from the Prime Minister of Canada honouring his work in the church and the community.
The family will receive friends at the Weaver Life Centre, 29 Bay Street, Trenton on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home on July 18th at 6:15 pm, followed by a Legion Memorial Service at 6:45 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Church Royal Chapel, 52 South Church Lane, Deseronto on July 19, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Bishop Michael Oulton, Diocese of Ontario, and Dean James McShane, Diocese of Algoma officiating. Private family Inurnment at St. George's Cemetery Trenton.
