McKenzie, Ervin "Mac"
McKenzie, Ervin "Mac"... Passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Beloved husband of 61 years to Theresa McKenzie (nee Pope) of Brighton. Loving dad to Diane Bekeris, Debby McLean, Gary McKenzie (Diane) and Scott McKenzie. Proud grandpa "Gumpy" to Laura (Chris), Leanne, Amanda, Shawnda and Travis. Brother to Jean (Tony) Doucette and predeceased by siblings: Valerie (Manny) Brown, Rudy McKenzie, Anne Smith and Brian McKenzie (surviving wife Cathy). Lovingly remembered brother in law to Nancy Whittle (George), Louise Wight (Doug), Ann Whyte (late Pat), Betty Jenkins (Gerry), Jane Yardy (late Ken), Bob Pope (late Betty Ann) and the late John Pope (surviving wife Margo). Mac will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, as well as his golfing buddies in Ontario and Florida.
After leaving Cape Breton as a young man, Mac joined the RAF, embarking on a career as an aeroengine mechanic. After 27 years of military service, he retired and began a second, 16 year career at McDonnell Douglas, before finally retiring to devote more time to his consuming passion of golf.
Mac was a devoted family man and helpful friend, never hesitating to lend a hand with fixing a car or shingling a roof. As a Grandpa, he shone - spending hours in the pool swimming with the grandkids, proudly sharing first dances with Laura and Leanne, diabolically hiding Easter eggs, and encouraging mayhem during Christmas present unwrapping. Mac was never happier than when he was with his family.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Weaver Life Centre, 29 Bay Street, Trenton on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 1-4 pm with prayers and memory sharing at 2:30 pm. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at www.weaverfuneralhomes.com
