Tyendinaga Township Council approves 2017 budget

Tyendinaga Township Council has been able to hold the line on property tax increases in this year's budget.

Council approved a $4.16-million spending plan for 2017 on Tuesday evening, and C-A-O Steve Mercer says assessment growth of 2.1 % helped limit the tax hike to about 2 %..

Taxes on a home assessed at $300,000 will go up by $78 this year.

The budget includes $400,000 for road work, $150,000 for a new air compressor for the fire department and $100,000 to close the dump on Old Highway 2.
