UPDATE: Bancroft area residents could remain dark until Thursday night

The lights might stay out for people in the Bancroft area until at least Thursday night.

Strong winds and freezing rain knocked out service throughout the region Tuesday night, with 67 outages affected  more than 8,000 homes in North Hastings.

Slightly more than 5,400 homes and cottages were still without hydro Wednesday afternoon.

Hydro one crews continued work on getting everyone reconnected, but the utility said it could take until 6 p.m. Thursday to finish the job.

Another 418 locations in Frankford had no electricity Wednesday, but service was restored by the afternoon.

Dozens of smaller blackouts and one or two larger ones happened as wind gusts reached close to 100 kms/hour early Wednesday morning.

Close to 800 people in Quinte West were without power because of eight smaller outages in Trenton until early afternoon.

More than 1,300 homes in the Tweed distribution were n the dark throughout Wednesday. Estimated repair time was 11 p.m.
