Stirling to hold public meeting on police costs Wednesday
Residents of Stirling-Rawdon Township are invited to a public meeting Wednesday on the cost of switching from municipal policing to OPP service.
Council members were told in late January the price for the provincial police could be a $1.564-million dollars a year, with an additional $217,000 in startup expenses.
Township Council began looking at an alternative because some members, including Mayor Rodney Cooney, were concerned about the rising costs of policing.
Information about the bill for the current municipal police service will also be provided at the meeting, along with a time for public comments and input.
It will be held at the Stirling Festival Theatre on West Front Street at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
