Stirling skip wins opener at U18 Canadian curling championship
Kayla Gray has started her national championship bid the right way.
The Stirling resident, skipping Team Ontario, opened the national U18 curling championships in Moncton Tuesday with a convincing 5-1 win over Team Erickson of Saskatchewan.
Gray, along with vice Mikayla Gemmill from Perth, second Chelsea Ferrier from Perth, and lead Morgan Typhair of Brighton, scored a deuce in the sixth, then added steals in the seventh and eight ends to cruise to victory.
Team Ontario plays out of Pool A with Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northern Ontario and Newfoundland.
Ontario plays Manitoba Tuesday at 7 p.m. the takes on Northern Ontario Wednesday at 9 a.m.
