Senators hosting outdoor game, Belleville fans get priority access
Belleville Senators season ticket holders will get a trip to the front of the line for one of the biggest National Hockey League events of the year.
The Ottawa Senators announced Friday the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic at will take place in Lansdowne Park in Ottawa on Dec. 16 featuring the Senators and the Montreal Canadiens.
The outdoor game, part of the NHL's Centennial Celebration, will pay tribute to a century of NHL games and help to mark the 100th anniversary of the League's first games played on Dec. 19, 1917.
The announcement was made during a press conference Friday in Ottawa, where the League is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup. Canada also is celebrating 150 years of Confederation.
"We believe that at 100 years of age, our game has never been stronger, faster, more skilled or better," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "We also believe that the first 100 years are only the beginning. So to launch our next 100 years, we believe it's only right to bring the Canadiens and Senators back together.”
"It's going to be an incredible game, an incredible experience," Senators owner and chairman Eugene Melnyk said. "It's a city that truly deserves it. It will be a perfect weekend, I guarantee it."
Belleville Senators season-seat members will receive priority access for an opportunity to purchase tickets for the game as part of the membership. Pre-sale dates will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
