No beach postings this weekend in Hastings and Prince Edward, but still concerns

No beaches in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties have been posted as unsafe for swimming this weekend, although the health unit is advising people brave enough to take a dip about the risk they' might be taking by entering the water.

The beach monitoring program got underway this week, and Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health says higher than normal levels of e-coli contamination could be present because of the recent flooding..

There are also concerns about hidden hazards and debris in the water.

The health unit tests at Centennial Beach in Deseronto, Frankford Park on the Trent River, Legion Park in Marmora,  Tweed Park on Stoco Lake and Wellington Beach once a week during the summer, and at other swimming locations on a more infrequent basis.
