Crashes continue to snarl traffic in Quinte

A major blast of winter continues to create problems for drives and traffic in and around Quinte.

The eastbound off ramp at exit #509 Brighton had to be closed to traffic Wednesdya morning to facilitate the removal of a tractor-trailer that slid into the ditch Tuesday.

The closure was expected to last until about 1:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, there were a series of incidents in through the region overnight and through the day.

Thousands of homes lost power overnight in a series of blackouts, (see story) and there were a series of crashes, although no serious injuries were reported.

One significant crash involved a vehicle that slid off Wallbridge Loyalist Road and brought down a pole around Belleville's Loyalist College, just south of Moira Street West, around 9 p.m.

It blocked the access road to Moira Street for about an hour.

There was significant damage to the vehicle and three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
