COLE’S NOTES: Road trip edition
Before going into detail about the adventure that was Day 1 of our three-day trip, I feel like some back story is necessary. In the opening line I mentioned "we". Along for this sportsventure I've got my best friend, my brother from another mother, my BFF... Jordan.
Jordan and I have been friends since high school. One day later in our high school days we randomly came up with the genius idea to take in a home game of each team in the 4 major sports leagues. We've had some pretty amazing experiences but this will be the furthest we've ever been for some live sports.
Because these two venues that played host to some of the biggest sporting events and had some pretty memorable games played by their home teams we knew that we needed to be a part of their final seasons. Conveniently they are playing on back to back days on a weekend we were able to spare 40 hours in car together.
You heard me right, we drove! And as has been the case for every single road trip we go on, it rained for over half of the first 11 hours of our drive. The road trip is half the fun of these sports trips! Fun and educational.
What I have learned so far is that there could be quite the AHL road trip in our future. We travelled through the likes of Allentown, Wilkes Barre-Scranton, Hershey, and Syracuse and saw routes for a couple more cities that other teams call home. With the Binghamton Senators moving to Belleville next season I can assure you that following them around could be quite the commitment but doable.
Saturday, we have another 6-7 hour drive ahead to get to the ATL but it will all be well worth the cheap gas ($2 a gallon if you are wondering) and mileage put on Jordan's car to get to witness history.
More details to come.
