CHEAP SEATS: Savour a step in the right direction for downtown

Bigger and better doesn’t really cover this weekend’s Savour the Chill event in downtown Belleville.

This is previous years’ events on steroids

The event still features the now well-known soup walk tour of some 14 participating restaurants. But it has a pile of new features as well.

Like the Shriners pancake breakfast to get you started.

Like all kinds of activities at Empire Square and the library to help the kids work up an appetite. And free movies at the Empire Theatre to let them rest.

Then there is ice carving at Century Village and a host of events throughout the downtown such as wine tasting, crafts and even a psychic fair.

And that’s just Saturday.

On Sunday Café E, Sans Souci, Earl and Angelo’s and Nice Ice Baby team with the Quinte Symphony for Avec Plasir: a fixed menu brunch or dinner at one of the restaurants and the symphony all for one low cost.

It is the kind of event in the downtown that many of us have been waiting for: a wide variety of things to see and do, but most importantly various groups and businesses working together, complimenting each other, for the benefit of everyone.

It’s the kind of thing we would like to see more of. Quite frankly, if downtown is going to thrive, it’s the kind of thing we have to see more of.

I’m Bill Glisky and that’s the way I see things From the Cheap Seats.

From the Cheap Seats can be heard Monday to Friday at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and noon on 95.5 Hits FM and Cool 100.1
